Michelle Obama in Moschino

Matchy.

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama attend
the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.

It's appropriately First Lady-ish, with a modern feel to it. We like the coat. We like the dress. We hate when she wears coats that match the dress. It's too "fashion doll." The hair and makeup look great and we like the subtle brooch. All points for discussion.

But the real reason for putting this post together is so we can highlight some news courtesy of the Huffington Post: Mrs. Obama's long time stylist and the person most responsible for the Michelle Obama "look," is no longer on the job.

"With the news of Ikram Goldman's upcoming Legend of Fashion honor comes a series of reports that the Chicago boutique owner is no longer Michelle Obama's unofficial stylist, and that the first lady might be taking wardrobe advice from White House aide Meredith Koop.

The New York Times' Cathy Horyn slipped, "For what it's worth, I hear that Ikram Goldman, the Chicago retailer, is no longer directly involved with Mrs. Obama's wardrobe, since December."

Goldman has been a figure of some note because she really defined the First Lady's style, but she is also responsible for some terribly bad choices. In addition, she had a rep for being very closed to any designers she didn't personally carry in her store or have some form of relationship with. We're pissed some "aide" got to take over the job when every fool knows we deserve it, but since we can trace the appearance of Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and even vintage on the First Lady directly to this new gal, she must be doing something right. Of course, the McQueen dress infamously became its own little scandal, but it's interesting to see how the new stylist is opening up the definition of First Lady fashion.
