Marc Jacobs dove into the deep end of the '70s pool last spring with his part Rocky Horrr/part Studio 54 coke-fueled glam looks. This collection, on the other hand, has an easy, earthy chicness to it that recalls the better parts of '7os fashion while avoiding the cliches. We love the velvet color-blocked dress and the high-slit skirts in the Escheresque cube pattern. There seems to be a concerted effort this season to return to autumnal colors after several fall seasons of deliberately avoiding them. The golds, moss greens, rusty oranges and deep blues give a comforting, cocooning feel while avoiding looking "earthy." In fact, the feeling is more of chic urban upscale mommy and/or modern career girl rather than disco goddess or macrame-wielding earth mother.
