In or Out: Diane Kruger in Dolce&Gabbana

Sweating the details.

Okay, let's start this off by saying she's IN, because we really like this dress and we can't deny that she's turning heads. But we have some issues with this look on her and they come down to fit, proportion and accessorizing. Pay attention. This is science.

Fit and proportion: The waist on this dress seems to sit a skosh too high on her. Now, if this were a gown or tea length, this probably wouldn't be so noticeable. But because this is pretty much a micro-mini, it's elongating her already long legs.

Accessorizing: Nude shoes are deployed so often on the red carpet for two reasons: to elongate the leg and because it's a trend right now and stylists are trend-obsessed to a ridiculous degree. That latter reason explains our constant dismissal of the lowly nude shoe. Very rarely do genetically blessed and shockingly thin celebrities need to visually elongate their legs, so most of the time, the nude shoe is unnecessarily deployed when a colored shoe would have worked so much better. Such is the case here. We don't even need a color; a white, black or silver shoe would have been an improvement over this.

The result of the slightly high waist, super-short skirt, and nude platform pumps is an optical illusion that makes her legs look a little freakishly long here. And maybe that was the intent, but we think the look would have been more graceful had our very serious concerns been addressed. Harumph.

Still, she's an IN, because we can't honestly say she looks bad here. We just think she could have looked a little better. The red carpet is a harsh and cruel world, kittens.
