First lady Michelle Obama, in Moschino, during an event to honor the military families who organize the Quantico and Anacostia branches of the Marine Corps Reserve annual Toys for Tots drive in the White House.
It's funny. There are certain things she should avoid because when she tries them, they don't flatter her (belts, full skirts, etc.) and then every once in a while she tries something again and it inexplicably works this time. We're talking about the 3/4 length sleeves on the jacket. They almost never look good on tall, long-limbed women like Michelle. They tend to make it appear that the top isn't fitting them correctly and that's generally been the case whenever she attempts them. And yet here they look perfect. The whole outfit looks perfect. Which is also odd because it represents another style choice of hers that we rarely like: an entire look made up of separate pieces, all in the same fabric. It's very Jackie Kennedy because it's very much a late '50s/early '60s thing.
Of course part of the reason all of this is working on her is because it's a really fantastic outfit. Perfect for the holidays without lapsing into Quacker Factory twee-ness or relying on "Nancy Reagan red" to get the point across. Plus, the hair, makeup, jewelry and shoes are all perfect choices. Yes, it's all very matchy, but she really looks put together. This might be one of our favorite Shelley O looks.
